Brooks Turnipseed 3/16/10P4 What I Learned In this short quarter that I was here for, I have learned a few new things. I learned about Ethos, Pathos, and Logos, and how much they can help me when writing a paper. I also learned about a lot of social issues throughout the world and even the United States. There was racial discrimination, terrorism, deforestation, child abuse, poverty, drug abuse, war, violence, and other important issues that some people don’t really look at as important. I think that is one reason why it is so bad, so many people have a lack of caring, that not enough is done to do something about it. One thing that I never really recognized as being as bad as it is, is child abuse. Watching some of the videos that were shown blew my mind. I had no idea that stuff like this was happening, probably because it has never been around me. After seeing it, it made me really want to try and do something about this issue, I haven’t quite found out what yet, but I’m, hoping there is something that I can do to make even the slightest difference in someone’s life. Ethos or credibility is ethical appeal and can also mean convincing by the character of the author. Pathos or emotional, means persuading by appealing to the reader's emotions. Logos or logical means persuading by the use of reasoning. All three of these things are very crucial in typing a good paper. They all help you become better writers and can make you a successful person when you are out in the real world. So far, in my short experience at Alta High School, this is probably the most crucial thing I have learned. It is one thing that I know I will need to use when I am out of high school and even out of college. If I can always have this in the back of my mind, I think it can propel me to do good things while I am on this planet. Thank you Mr. Pitcher.
