To be able to truly and justly express yourself is something of great value that can come from studying the the mechanics behind English.  Chances are, this stuff will help me no matter where I end up further down the line.  Musicians writing lyrics get a huge jump start toward expanding on their personal art by simply understanding the ups and downs of literature itself.  Most of the time, people that want to be taken seriously in any pretense need to be well spoken in order to accomplish that feat.  If you land a business management gig and you don't know the first thing about how to construct a legitimate contract binding document, to speak roughly using simple vocabulary, you're screwed my friend.  These things should be taken into consideration when forgetting to think twice about posting a response on a discussion board or typing a gnarly essay.  You get the idea to some kind of extent.  To briefly sum up, this (writing in general) is helping me now and it will be helping me later.  That being said, I should probably go to bed and absorb this. I've learned how to break down essay's and grab the readers attention better. I have become better at following all the steps to write a better essay. I've learned more about grammar in the past couple weeks than I have learned before. I have a better understanding of why advebs and adjectives are important and how they help out. They add a lot of detail to a phrase. I understand how prepositions work now and how they are used. The Remember The Titans essay helped a lot with understanding the traditional plot line. It broke everything down and made it really simple to follow. I think that assignment helped me understand how to write a story or essay a little bit better. Also we reviewed how to cite work from a book which helped a lot because I never really understood how to do that. I love how we get time to read every class period because that helps a lot with becoming a good writer. I feel like I have learned a lot so far. The others sucked bad, but this one we actually learn things and are given assignments that aren't a complete waste of time. I like the grammar and stuff. I can't wait until we start reading novels. Reading is amazing, it's my life. I'm glad we're learning how to write well formed essays. I'm learning quite a bit about that whole thing and it's gold. So yeah, i've felt more like Mr. Pitcher has an interest in us the way he lectures. He actually has conversations with us and doesn't just give us a grammar worksheet and sit at his desk. Seriously I really have not had to write this much in my whole life combined. This year has been crazy! The other english classes sucked bad, but this one we actually learn things and are given writing assingments. I like the grammer stuff we do. I can't wait till the next quarter to see what we have to do. This first quarter has been pretty tough. Next quarter actually be worse which would not be good. And I have felt like Mr. Pitcher has an interest in helping the students learn unlike the other teachers I have had in the past. His lectures are actually not even bad at all. I like listening to them for some reason. I learn a lot. I like Mr. Pitcher as a teacher. I think he is great. A very helpful skill that I have improved on, is note taking. While we watch powerpoints, or listen to Mr. Pitcher, there is not enough time or space to write everything down. I have become very good at picking out the most important topics in the lecture to remember. I look back on my notes, and am very impressed about how useful they are to me. I have also begun to learn about the writing process. I can already tell that my writing is improving. By the end of this year, I will be able to write clearer and more effective. I will use writing my entire life. All through college, it will help me in every single class. Wow that seems super short for the amount of material we have covered in this class.  We have learned a lot about the parts of language.  Among these are nouns, adjectives, pronouns, adverbs.  These are extremely important for the reason that we use these in everyday situations. In fact everything we say uses these parts.  In order to not sound like a complete moron we need to be able to speak with elements in our words on auto pilot and correctly.  More importantly is that if we are able to use these terms if we want to write.  Writing is in big part what this class is trying to help us improve. That is why Mr. Pitcher spends so much time in class teaching us this stuff.  The nice thing about us being able to master these elements is that it will give our writing and speech color, and length! This is rather good in my book.  For the reason I have a real problem with lengths on papers.  This is because I would just put the facts into my papers and nothing more and nothing less.  As a result it made a small paper and very dull to read. I will be a much more efficient student in the aspect of that i won't have to have my work "spoon-fed" to me anymore. Too often readers in my generation miss out on the knowledge and experiences they could be gaining from reading a book or story. Most people may 'read' something and then can't relate the story to their own lives. Others may not even be able to reiterate the story if it was asked of them to do so. I didn't learn these techniques solely in this class, although it has contributed to them greatly. During the last several weeks, we have discussed Nouns, Pronouns, Adjectives, Adverbs, etc.  I think the mark of any well-educated person is their manner of speaking and their ability to put together a well-constructed sentence.  My father is a lobbyist, and he is very active in political affairs.  In his work, he is required to write legislation, political advertisements and brochures, and many different types of reports.  He studied Political Science in college, but he says it would have been much more helpful if he had majored in English.  I know I will have to present myself well in job interviews.  I hope my English will serve me well and that employers will say, "There goes a well-educated young man." Language Arts 12 is extremely benificial and important for the students in preparing for a future. This class is very put-together and always on task. Many times, English is taken for granted by teachers. Its not very well taught by alot of teachers nor taken seriously. Mr. Pitcher is doing a great job of keeping the seniors of Alta on their feet, and doing something meaningful at all times. Learning the basics of English, writing, and digging up the roots of why we use them has been stretched by a lot in this class.
