I like to list all my ideas about the subject of my essay without bothering to put them in any chronological order. I like to use my listing to decide which will be main points in my essay and which will be supporting ideas. Usually after this brainstorming process, I will know the focus of my essay. I then make a list of the main ideas I want to cover that clarify the focus of my essay. I then do a listing under each of the main ideas of the supporting ideas. Sometimes the supporting ideas are from my original listing, and sometimes they are new profound ideas elicited from my listing of the main ideas. Also, I do not enjoy looking back on journal entries trying to decide which to use and which are useless. Therefore, the journaling technique would just not work for me. The listing technique is similar to that age-old and often used technique called ~The Outline~. I love the outlining technique because it is very easy to glance over and gather ideas quickly. The listing technique has a similar benefit, so this is what I use to this day.","dateCreated":"1256693781","smartDate":"Oct 27, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"Jordan_Jolley_5","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/Jordan_Jolley_5","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1256694087\/Jordan_Jolley_5-lg.jpg"}},{"id":"16026931","body":"To write an essay it takes a long time to do, at least to make it well written. When writing an essay you need a plan on how you going to do it. For me the most effective way is listing. I like to list everything out in general terms that will only make sense to me. It's hard for me to just start writing in a journal on a broad topic. I like to lay out all my ideas onto a paper then expand from them there. Sometimes if I choose to journal I don\u2019t remember what I wanted to say next. Listing is a fast process to get all your ideas out. Sylvia Plath always listed her ideas onto paper before she got started with her papers. She created beautiful work that is admired today. Listing is a great way to get started on your paper. You can pick out main ideas from it and expand on them. Both journaling and listing both will be beneficial to the writing process, but for me listing is the best way for me to try to do my best work. You have to allow yourself a long time to write a well written paper. But with the pre-write process it will only make it that much that better I believe.","dateCreated":"1256695896","smartDate":"Oct 27, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"Kylee-Runia4","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/Kylee-Runia4","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}},{"id":"16027015","body":"personally I like to list. Once I can get all of my ideas down on the paper then I dont have a problem writing the paper.I thought that Sylvia Plath wrote super good with her listing technique using a huge amount of description and connecting everything well. Sylvia Plath not only showed you what is going on but how she felt. When all my ideas are in front of me I can look at all of them and decide which ones will support the topic the most. If I had the time to do this to all of my essays then I would have some pretty dang good ones.","dateCreated":"1256696018","smartDate":"Oct 27, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"Jordan-Lloyd4","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/Jordan-Lloyd4","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}},{"id":"16029425","body":"For me, listing would be the easier technique to use because before I write, I like to get out all the thoughts I have then take those thoughts and describe them in paragraphs. When you list ideas, it makes it easier to visually look at what your dealing with, and create your story or essay with them. You can change the order of the thoughts without going through your journaling. This also saves time by just listing your quick memories, rather than explaing through journaling. Even though both are effective, I would stick to the listing just because it is easier for me that way.","dateCreated":"1256699696","smartDate":"Oct 27, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"Lundon-Smith2","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/Lundon-Smith2","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}},{"id":"16031659","body":"I personally have to say that listing is the best process for me. I am the type of person who needs to have a list to be able to think or know what I am doing. This is probably because I am a very cut and dry kind of person. However, I do have to say that Sylvia Plath has some real talent in the fact she is able to write the way she does. However, I find it very difficult for me to write as though I am in a journal. I think it is lame and cannot really expand on items to make sound more important than if it was just listed and had a couple of sentences explaining it. Listing is also very useful when talking about history for the reason that you can list terms and sound really intelligent. The best part in my opinion is that all you need to be able to be able to describe what you want or if anyone asks you. However I am going to have to conclude that both of these writing processes are both very valid ways of writing things that are needed to be stated. They both state the same things however they put them in separate ways of stating things. They are supposed to help you accomplish the goal of writing about something that you find interesting.","dateCreated":"1256705899","smartDate":"Oct 27, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"Austin-Bailey2","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/Austin-Bailey2","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}},{"id":"16043497","body":"I tink that journaling is the most effective way. In journaling you keep an account of what you see and do. You include other people and what the say and do. You keep track of what was said in incounter or what you heard. In journaling you use your five senses more than listing a bunch of things. When you use a list you can't be as descriptive. When you write a journal you show you feelings and emotions. When you show your emotions you allow people to get to know you. They relize that the writer is human and that they can actually make mistakes. When you allow people to see who you are then you become a better writer. Your break down those personal walls that every person puts up to protect against embarrassment. Embarrassment is what some writers fear that keeps them from doing the necessary orders that are required to become a pulished writer. That fear is probably the biggest thing to over come as a writer. That is why i think that journaling is the better of the pre-writing styles.","dateCreated":"1256738685","smartDate":"Oct 28, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"Aaron-edwards1","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/Aaron-edwards1","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1256224505\/Aaron-edwards1-lg.jpg"}},{"id":"16072615","body":"My personal preference is to use listing if I need a quick but specific piece of writing, and to use journaling for longer, more detailed papers. The reason i like to use listing is that it is a great way to organize specific points \/ thoughts such as those used in a persuasive essay. Listing is quick and to the point. On the other hand, if I'm supposed to write something such as a short story for example, this is when I would use journaling. Journaling, personally, allows me to come up with more details on a broader subject. I feel that they both have their uses. Some may prefer to use just one method all the time, but it works better for me to just use them where I feel they could be most beneficial.","dateCreated":"1256765336","smartDate":"Oct 28, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"Spencer--Chamberlain7","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/Spencer--Chamberlain7","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1256358595\/Spencer--Chamberlain7-lg.jpg"}},{"id":"16093809","body":"For non-fiction writing, I usually just list all the facts as they are\/were, then add details to make it pleasing to read. As for fiction, well that's a completely different story! When I'm making up a story I start with the title. I have a good general idea of what I want it to be about and the characters. Then I'll write a short 1 paragraph synopsis of my 'story'. I make sure to include a beginning, middle, and an end. Each is only a sentence or two long. Then I go through and add things. Sentence by sentence I add detail and more interesting or funny things to the story line. I start adding chapters or scenes (screenplays). I add dialog and more details. Anything that pops into mind I add it. I keep this up until the story is long enough or has enough information to make it entertaining. I don't know if my methods are 'proper', but it works for me!","dateCreated":"1256797092","smartDate":"Oct 28, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"Seth_Tippetts5","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/Seth_Tippetts5","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1252070263\/Seth_Tippetts5-lg.jpg"}},{"id":"16098461","body":"I personally like to journal my ideas before I write any sort of paper. Because even with a bunch of unorganized notes it gives me the idea i need to put the whole thing together and add the details it needs. Its easy for me to see when i wrote about something in the journal for all the memories of what i was writing about to flow back into my head. Although i do see how listing can be affective when writing i personally think that journaling is so much easier for the way that my brain works. Once a read a few things out of my journal i feel like i can tell the whole story and make it exiting and detailed. In listing i feel like theres not enough for me to pull anything out of it just like random words written down. Although both these are excellent writers i think its partially my personality that tells me i should journal things when i want to write a paper just because thats the best method for me. But it could be different for someone else so its good that there are multiple ways to do it.","dateCreated":"1256818906","smartDate":"Oct 29, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"Josh_Fabrizio5","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/Josh_Fabrizio5","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}},{"id":"16112859","body":"The best way for me to write a constructive, effective thing, is to have it written in many drafts. I find the best improvements in the advice, and annotations from other people who correct, and make changes to my writing. Having someone go over my work before I finalize it is the best way to make sure it will accomplish what I strive for it to do. Most of what I write are lyrics. When the lyrics become personal, I make sure that I write it in a way that will impact others, but keep the deeper meaning for myself. But, when I write constructive, and catchy lyrics, I always preview them to a few friends, and have my fellow band buddies add or take to the piece. Most of what I write comes from inspiration, or strong feelings toward a subject of my choosing.","dateCreated":"1256835259","smartDate":"Oct 29, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"spencer_hill2","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/spencer_hill2","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}},{"id":"16135853","body":"For me journaling is the one of the ways I like to use when writing. However, that is only for writing stories. Listing ideas are better for me if I am writing an essay or doing a research paper. Journaling is easier for me though, since I have a creative right brained mind and its easier to get thoughts onto pages. Lists help me keep my mind on track and to the point where as, journaling my brain is kind of scattered. Both of those are effective for me but in different ways.","dateCreated":"1256860091","smartDate":"Oct 29, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"jillLizzie-jensen1","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/jillLizzie-jensen1","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1256050270\/jillLizzie-jensen1-lg.jpg"}},{"id":"16173781","body":"I personally think that listing is a better way to pre-write. Before you start writing, its good to have all of your ideas written down somewhere. Lists can be really useful when you are trying to decide about what to write. You can list all of your ideas and keep them handy so you can use them in your writing. I like to have some idea of what i want to put in my writing, and listing is a very effective way for me to take those ideas and put them down on paper. That way, i can just look over the list of ideas that i have, and put them in my writing. I can also uses lists in my writing, like William Least Heat Moon and his List of Nothing in Particular. The way he listed all of the things that he saw in the desert was very effective to prove a point. He used a list to show that there were a lot of things you could see in the desert, even when most other people would say that the desert is "barren and empty". I think that listing is a much more effective way to start the writing process.","dateCreated":"1256927578","smartDate":"Oct 30, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"Zach_Ross1","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/Zach_Ross1","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}}],"more":175}]}],"more":false},"comments":[]},"http":{"code":200,"status":"OK"},"redirectUrl":null,"javascript":null,"notices":{"warning":[],"error":[],"info":[],"success":[]}}
