People are easy to preach to if they dont know a thing about the subject your writing about. Pathos is essential for logos to be effective, but you dont really NEED it. If what you say makes sense to the people, those people are willing to be further convinced. If those people are willing to be further convinced... you win. You've got their attention, they are eating out of the palms of your hands. Ethos is basically useless if the people dont believe you. Ethos comes last. Lets compare all this to religion. Makes sense to some people, right? And why? Its cause they believe and relate the preachings of the church to their own lives blindly. People believe it because it just makes sense to them. There are absolutely no facts behind any of it. And if you ask me, there wont ever be. But there you go. Logos wins. :D","dateCreated":"1258851029","smartDate":"Nov 21, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"Jared_Schutz1","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/Jared_Schutz1","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1256051955\/Jared_Schutz1-lg.jpg"}},{"id":"17262359","body":"I strongly feel that Pathos is the most effective way to persuade someone. All three of them are very effective, but when it comes to reading an essay or novel it is the emotion and the opinion of the writer that really gets me thinking. When your writing something and you really want the reader to become involved in the story, then you need to use or emotions to make the reader attatched to what your trying to say. It is very true that logic and credibility are needed to persuade the person, but anyone can find facts. When your reading about something that the writer really feels strongly about then you become attached and involved in the story which is very important. Its just like when people are trying to explain a story that has happened to them, it's not necessarily the facts that get to you, it is the emotion that they put towards the story. Emotion goes a long ways with people. Like the book we're reading now in class, it's his emotions that make me involved and wanting to read more.","dateCreated":"1258926223","smartDate":"Nov 22, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"lauren-gilbert5","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/lauren-gilbert5","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}},{"id":"17270339","body":"In my opinion, I believe Pathos is the most effective method. I think it is very important for their to be some sort of emotion behind a story or plot. I think when the readers can connect with the literature on a more personal level, they are getting more out of the reading then just facts. People look for some sort of emotion or feelings when they are reading a story, without emotion, you would lose the readers attention. I think it is important for writers to reach out to their readers through their emotions, and they will get a lot more feedback from their readers. Ethos and Logos are important, but they are all factual or fact-based ideas, there is no emotion behind them at all. While I was watching Hamlet and taking notes, I wrote down a lot of factual information, which is Ethos, but it was easier for me to catch the characters emotions and put those into words. I think Ethos, Pathos, and Logos are all important in a story, but if I had to choose, I would go with Pathos as the key method for sure. I would rather have my reader remember how he\/she emotionally connected with my story than the facts I presented.","dateCreated":"1258939721","smartDate":"Nov 22, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"Elise-Katter1","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/Elise-Katter1","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1255986496\/Elise-Katter1-lg.jpg"}},{"id":"17273741","body":"I think that each type of persuasion can be very effective, but I think that pathos is the best way to persuade somebody. I think that ethos is important because it shows believability in the writing. That is important in persuasion. Logos is important for critical thinkers. Reasoning in persuading others is also very important. The reason why I think that pathos is the most effective is that it appeals to the emotions of people. It is a technique used for motivation. If people are emotional about something, they are usually passionate and motivated. Those are the most important ways to persuade somebody. I think a combination of all three of these things will really be persuasive. It is important to stimulate someone's emotions if you want to get them to believe something. Pathos is the most vital of the three.","dateCreated":"1258945463","smartDate":"Nov 22, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"Becca-Beaudoin5","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/Becca-Beaudoin5","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1256265295\/Becca-Beaudoin5-lg.jpg"}},{"id":"17275147","body":"When you suggest a good piece of writing to someone, it isn't usually because of the author, or the person it is credited to, right? It is because of the way you connected with the book or story. The emotional part of a book is much more persuasive than the other two. Ethos, Pathos, and Logos are all important parts in persuasion, but pathos dominates. Each has it's own benefits, but for me it is Pathos that does the best job in persuading and really allowing you to personally connect with the writing. Pathos is the emotional part. It allows you to connect with the way the characters are feeling and it let's us know why also. Pathos has a greater impact on people. If someone writes, or reads without any pathos, it is boring. Whether it is a drastic emotion, or just slightly, it still does it's job of catching the readers attention. You would be okay do to without the Ethos and Logos, but leaving out the Pathos would not be a good thing. Your language choice affects the way the audience responds and emotion can effectively be used in an argument. I certainly know I wouldn't like to read or listen to a piece of writing without any emotional part to it. That is why I think The Pathos is the greatest and most important not only in our language, but also in life. It is used on a daily base.","dateCreated":"1258948218","smartDate":"Nov 22, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"celisse-halterman4","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/celisse-halterman4","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1256088220\/celisse-halterman4-lg.jpg"}},{"id":"17275197","body":"In my opinion, i think that using Logos is the most important. Without it an argument is virtually worthless. Facts are the main factor in persuading someone to believe something or to convince someone. Facts and logic make the person understand the subject more fully and help the persuader with a base of where to stand on a subject. With the presentation of facts, one can have a better credibility and adds of to more emotional persuasion. Or in other words, Logos adds to the Ethos, which in turn boosts the Pathos of an argument. Logos is the base of understanding. People learn on the concept of fact and logic. If something is not real, then it is hard to explain what it is. It is, although, very important to incorporate all the rhetoric steps. One is more likely to achieve success if one is more credible, and if one appeals to all the senses of emotion and senses. Facts though are the bases of all persuasion and argument. So therefore i think that Logos is the most important thing we have learned recently.","dateCreated":"1258948330","smartDate":"Nov 22, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"paco-smith7","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/paco-smith7","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1256177348\/paco-smith7-lg.jpg"}},{"id":"17276527","body":"I believe that Ethos is the most important out of the three. The reason that i think this is because when you write with emotion, it helps the audience follow it better and it also makes it more enjoyable for not only the audience, but for you the writer as well. Pathos and Logos are both very important as well. I just think that Ethos stands out above the other two. I think that if you are writing about something you care about and have emotion for it provides much more meaning to the story rather than just saying what you need to say and getting it over with. Pathos and Logos are both very important. Pathos, I would say would be the next important to Ethos and Logos would be last. I know that you need to use all three in order to have an effective story line or plot. If you want to have a really good story though, you need to write with emotion and use Ethos. And that is why i think ethos is more important than pathos and logos.","dateCreated":"1258952580","smartDate":"Nov 22, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"Derek_Crystal5","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/Derek_Crystal5","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}},{"id":"17276691","body":"I believe pathos is the most effective because it is based off of emotions. People believe you more when your connected to what your talking about. That emotion alone can almost be the ethos itself. Ethos is the speakers credibility, but if the person is tied to what there talking about emotionally, doesn't that mean obviously if there emotionally attatched to the subject that they most likely will know the facts and would have the credibility they need? Granted, because pathos is emotions, sometimes your judgements can be clouded but thats why there is pathos and logos; to help make the emotions make sense. I believe that emotions are a key component to making the world go round and that logic and speaker credibility are just there to make sure that the world isn't cloudy as you watch it turn.","dateCreated":"1258953330","smartDate":"Nov 22, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"david-lopez2","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/david-lopez2","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1256095283\/david-lopez2-lg.jpg"}},{"id":"17276799","body":"in my personal opinion, id have to say that pathos is the most effective in persuading a reader, the reason i say pathos is because i think emotions persuade most people more than facts and evidence. because sometimes even if all logic and all facts and evidence points to one thing it can be not the right thing. sometimes you just have to trust your emotions and thats why pathos is the most effective in persuading someone to your side. some people probably cant understand the facts that support the answer, but even a baby can feel emotion. everyone can feel emotions and thats why emotion is an incredible powerful way to persuade people. I think that ethos is the most important because you need to really get into the piece of writing and show your emotion. If you show emotion it really gets the attention of the reader and it shows your personality in the wrting. If you don't show your emotion into the writing, people will lose interest and want to stop reading it. Pathos and Logos are very important as well, but they don't always grab the attention of the reader. So if you put yourself into the piece of literature and give out all your emotions it would make such a greater piece of writing and it would be more effective. Everyone would get sucked into the writing and they won't want to stop reading.","dateCreated":"1258954804","smartDate":"Nov 22, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"Mckenzie_Pehrson6","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/Mckenzie_Pehrson6","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}},{"id":"17277037","body":"Logos and Ethos are very important parts of persuasion. It is very hard to drive home any part of your agruement without these in your arsenal. However it is my opinion that Pathos is the most important tool of persuasion. For the simple reason that it deals with emotions. For it is emotion in which sells points across faster than logic and ethics. Another reason why emotions are a better persuasion tool than the others is the fact that you can connect with your audience. Once you have reached that level of connectivity you will be able to get them to do anything for you. You will become a puppet master you may call it once that level is hit. However depending on the audience it could be difficult or varily easy for a person to get there. Emotions are the nukes of the persuasion aresnal they can either make or break the pitch.","dateCreated":"1258954922","smartDate":"Nov 22, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"Austin-Bailey2","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/Austin-Bailey2","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}},{"id":"17277103","body":"After learning about the three forms of persuasion; I was able to find that Logos is the most effective way of persuasion. It gets right to the point and gives the reader or person you are talking to the facts right away. Even if this may help people believe that in this case Ethos persuades more(making you seem smart and educated like you know what you are talking about in deep detail and truth), but it all has to begin with Logos in the first place. People want to here the facts, so if you are talking\/reading something that is making it sound all logical with facts; you are most likely going to start catch on and believe in what you are reading. Pathos approach does steal the reader away a lot of the times if it is done in a good manor. It is able to go in depth with the reader and connect more with them; helping them feel like you actually know whats going on, and that you are able to feel the same way about the subject as they do, but in the end I don't feel like that is the most effective way of persuasion. I think that it is able to catch the readers or listeners attention more often then the other ways.","dateCreated":"1258955179","smartDate":"Nov 22, 2009","userCreated":{"username":"Brad_Hinton5","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/Brad_Hinton5","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1255927958\/Brad_Hinton5-lg.jpg"}}],"more":32}]}],"more":false},"comments":[]},"http":{"code":200,"status":"OK"},"redirectUrl":null,"javascript":null,"notices":{"warning":[],"error":[],"info":[],"success":[]}}
