He Took facts, and pieced them together into physical, but not tangible evidence. The total amount of social bias used against the tried suspect is far too heavy. Without him then the boy would have been voted guilty. He used nothing but logic in his arguments, and understood the value of a human life. Davis realized that even if the boy was guilty, the jury should take some time and really think look at the facts to make sure it is the right choice.
\nMost of the jurors didn't have a direct bias towards the boy, but none of them wanted to waste time trying to find reasons how he could be innocent. You see that he had no doubt that the boy was innocent. Even though he wasn't positive, he realizes that its a human life they are fighting about not just some insect or animal. The social issue i believe, in this story, would be judgement. These older men think they know what goes on down on the streets with the teenagers. But they don't understand the torment they are put through every day at home and on the streets. They think because he looks like a punk and grew up with punk's that he must be a punk, so they don't give him a second look at the beginning. some believe that he could actually have been a good kid pushed to his limit. The one man that grew up in the ghetto's tells how hard it can be with the knife fights and other crimes. He is the one who firmly believed that there was an outside possibility that no one else was thinking of. I thought it was good how he started to think outside of the box. This is what got everyone elses mind going. He used some ethos when trying to convince the other jurors when he pulled out a very similar switchblade knife. At the beginning no one else thought there was any other knife like that, but once he showed that it was possible that there could be dupilcates and anyone could clearly get ahold of one, people began to change their thoughts.
\nThe most biggest social issue that I noticed in this movie was that they all seemed to be stereotyping the boy. They were saying that since he was from the "slums" of town that he was a criminal. One of the jurors said that all people from the slums are criminals. Although, that is very untrue, because there have been many successful and warm hearted people come out of the "slums" of a city. He had a very important input with sharing information. Although he was more quiet that the others, he was respected when he spoke and brought up some valid and applicable points. His mind is changed about the boy when he considers the evidence at hand. The social issue that I believe becomes relevant would be the stereotypical judgements placed on the boy. They did not make mention of all logical facts, but rather focused on his living arrangements.
